East Pyongyang Middle School No. 1 has achieved good results in IT education.
Students of the school have won the middle school students category at the annual programming contest of the national exhibition of IT achievements in 2024 and 2025, becoming the best programmers of the years.
They have also won the similar category at the programming contest of Kim Chaek University of Technology, virtually a national contest of IT talents, for the third consecutive year by writing ahead of others complex codes that required high skills.
This success is inconceivable apart from the school’s teaching of the IT subject.
With an eye to building up the programming capacity of the students, the school is applying heuristic, exploratory and discussion-oriented teaching methods, which help the students broaden their horizons in math, physics and other basic sciences, as well as IT, and develop their capacity for conceiving, designing, implementing, discoursing and presenting an idea and conducting exchange and cooperation as part of their creative abilities.
The process of working out a program brings interest, excitement and self-confidence to the students, and in the course of this, they are building their capacity for application, says Ryo Chun Sil, a teacher who holds a master’s degree.
Besides, the school has developed education support programs such as self-teaching and performance evaluation system and voice-activated Q&A to enhance the cognition rate of the students and improve the quality of teaching.
The school was honoured to be among the top 10 IT model units of 2025.
