On April 8, 1987, the service personnel of the Korean People’s Army presented a gift to Chairman Kim Jong Il out of their boundless reverence for him.
It was a large stuffed specimen for ornament, 3m high, 4m wide and over 10m round.
The service personnel rooted out a juniper, which was hundreds of years old, and barked its root, trunk and branch.
And they put stuffed bird and animal specimens of 70 species on the tree.
With the hope that Kim Jong Il would relieve his fatigue even a little, seeing various specimens of stuffed birds and animals at his break, they devoted themselves so that the birds and animals would not be harmed even to the slightest.
Kim Jong Il said to the official who brought it: It is easier said than done to make a combined stuffed specimen with a large number of birds and animals. I feel sorry to leave it merely for enjoyment. It would be a good idea to send it to the Pyongyang Students and Children’s Palace.
The official felt regretful.
Wearing a smile on his face, Kim Jong Il added that animals and plants are desirable visual aids for young students particularly in teaching them the knowledge of mountains and rivers and geography and resources of their country and in cultivating the love of the motherland in their minds.
He stressed that it must be sent to the palace, saying that the large stuffed specimen would prove its worth at the palace.
Today, the stuffed specimen conveys the ennobling love of Kim Jong Il for the future of the country and moves the visitors as well as the young people and students.
