In January 2006 Chairman Kim Jong Il of the DPRK National Defence Commission paid a visit to a newly established sci-tech exhibition hall in the e-library of Kim Chaek University of Technology.

There were displayed the university teachers and researchers' achievements in scientific research.

When the Chairman approached one of displays, a senior official of the university explained that the relevant research project had been carried out by three researchers and three students of a genius class. Much pleased, the Chairman said that a great job had been done by a small group of people. Then he declared: It is clear now that success or failure in all things including scientific research is determined by talented personnel. The achievements of this university show well how high the quality level of our country’s tertiary education is.

Acquainting himself with some successful research projects done by February 17 Shock Brigade of Scientists and Technicians of the university he repeated his appreciation, saying: Whenever I visit industrial establishments I hear stories of the teachers and researchers of this university working there. I know they are doing a lot of things. I would like you to convey my thanks to all the teachers and researchers of Kim Chaek University of Technology. Please tell them I hope they will achieve bigger things by making another leap forward.

His care and expectation for the university was truly warm and great.
